Wed 6 Cartmel Agricultural Show In the village now famous for producing Madonna's fave pud (Sticky Toffee Pudding evidently helps her keep in shape), the Agricultural Society showcases its farming successes. The show is well-organised and popular with show jumping, shire horses, food stalls, country product stalls, cattle, sheep, pigs and dogs. Delightfully informal and full of the good-natured farming fun that Brits do well. Free parking. Thu 7 Chilingirian Quartet Capriccio's curtain-raiser, Strauss's final chamber piece after a break of over 50 years, takes us to one of Beethoven's first quartets (see also here and here) and Shostakovich's cheeky and edgy 1925 octet (written at the same time as his 1st Symphony).
